Need help with redecorating floors ?

My carpet needs replaced in family room that connects to sitting area and also D/R, my house is an old Victorian, the carpet is dark red and in very good condition in the sitting area that is seldom used and also the D/R which is light beige, but I need a color to coordinate/contrast and don't know what would look good, I also have gray into hallway off family room and stair case in family room which are all the dark red color, would appreciate anyone that is good with interior decorating giving any advice.
