NSW Supreme Court this week dismissed an appeal by Alan McEwan who had been fined $3,000 for possession of a cartoon showing Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson having with their parents. Justice Michael Adams ruled that it was child , because in Commonwealth and state law, a fictional cartoon character is still considered a person. "ual acts were depicted, and the figures have genitalia which is evidently human” he said, adding that the legislation's main purpose is to combat the ual exploitation of children, and to deter production of images which can fuel demand for material that does involve child abuse. It’s unlikely that the makers of the cartoon will be deterred, but McEwan was given a two-year good behaviour bond, so let’s hope he doesn’t tell the aristocrats joke.
