Light does beam in all directions?

Well if you think about it... stars and planets are millions of miles away, so even if they were reflecting, it doesnt mean that we could notice it. And as for the sun not shining everywhere, our earth blocks the sun from hitting the opposite side? The only reason we can see the sun rise before it actually is visible is because its lighting the sky on the horizon.
